Very nice and rare Erkennungsmarke from a member of the 5./Hochgebirgs-Jäger-Bataillon I. The unit was formed on 20 July 1942 in Berchtesgaden and was attached to the 1. Gebirgs-Division in August 1942. It took part in the famous expeditions around the Elbrus in the Caucasus. In the Winter of 1942/42 the unit was dissolved and its members spread over other units of the 1. Gebirgs-Division. The tag was found in Krymskaya in the Kuban area.

Really rare tag to come across, and with a low number.

The tag has been damaged, but is still in very good and solid condition, with the text very clearly readable.
