Perfect example of a zinc Erkennungsmarke from a member of the Georgische Legion.

This Legion was formed at the end of 1941 and became operational in the Autumn of 1942. At least 30,000 Georgians served in the German army. The Georgian Legion consisted of thirteen battalions, each up to 800 men. They were mainly deployed on the Western Front, such as France and the Netherlands.

Several Georgian battalions were fighting against the Allied forces in Normandy. Another battalion, the 822nd, became famous for its uprising on the Dutch island of Texel in April 1945. The tag is a textbook example, in very good and solid condition, with the text clearly readable.

A sharp-looking tag that was worn by a Georgian volunteer.
