Absolute perfect stainless steel Erkennungsmarke from a member of the 14./Infanterie-Regiment 105, which was part of the 72. Infanterie-Division. The 14th company was the regimental Panzerjäger (anti-tank) company.

This unit took part in the invasion of France in 1940, was fighting in Ukraine in 1941 and 1942, took part in the siege of Sevastopol, moved to the front near Rshev and Orel in 1943, and became encircled in the Cherkassy pocket in the Winter of 1943/44. It suffered heavy losses during the break-out attempt on 16 February 1944. This tag was found near the village of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi. The tag itself is in absolutely incredible condition for being battlefield-found, but it is made of stainless steel and has the attractive bigger holes. It is a textbook examplar.

They don't come much better than this, from an anti-tank unit which must have seen a lot. We don't know the name of the owner, but can be researched further.

Wonderful tag.
