Nice and rare Erkennungsmarke from a member of the 5./SS-Feld-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 5 "Wiking", which was the field replacement unit of the 5. SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking". This field training battalion suffered heavy losses during the break-out from the Cherkassy pocket on 16 February 1944.

In total, the "Wiking" division lost up to 1,500 man during these actions, which made it one of the most destructive days in the history of this unit. This tag was found alongside the retrout route, and the owner was probably taken prisoner.

The tag is in very good condition with the marking clearly visible on both sides. A classic textbook example from a very historical place.
