The <strong>LSSAH<\/strong> was formed in <strong>1933 as the Stabswache<\/strong>, later renamed into <strong>Adolf Hitler Standarte<\/strong>, and then in <strong>November 1933<\/strong> into <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler<\/strong><\/span>. It grew from an original strength of <strong>120<\/strong> men in 1933 to a regiment of <strong>2,531<\/strong> men in 1934.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>LSSAH<\/strong> was issued its own marked equipment in this period, like mess tins and canteens. All this equipment was made by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Eduard Sommerfeld in Berlin (ESB)<\/strong><\/em><\/span> in 1934, which was the only accepted maker. This particular mess tin was found near <strong>Kharkov<\/strong> in <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>, where the <strong>1. SS-Panzer-Division &#171;LSSAH&#187;<\/strong> was fighting in <strong>1942 and 1943<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the cover is missing, as well as the handle, but the mess tin itself is in very good condition with the markings very clearly visible.<\/p>\n<p>It is beyond rare to find <strong>LSSAH<\/strong> marked equipment and we are proud we can offer such a piece, from a famous battlefield. This mess tin was issued in 1934 to a LSSAH member and lost on the battlefield eight or nine years later.
