Very interesting and rare SS M40 helmet with a visible decal.
It was recently found in Cherkassy, where the 5. SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking" broke out of the Cherkassy Pocket on 16 February 1944.
The "Wiking" division suffered heavy casualties when it broke through the Russian positions there. It is very rare to encounter SS helmets from this battlefield, and although it is heavily corroded, the markings are visible and both prongs are intact.
Very nice battlefield-dug helmet from a very historical place.
