Wonderful aluminum Erkennungsmarke from a member of the 9./Infanterie-Regiment 162, which was part of the 61. Infanterie-Division.

This division was fighting in the northern sector of the front, and took part in the siege of Leningrad. In January 1944, it retreated back to Narva, where it was fighting near Auvere during the heavy battles in Spring 1944. Although we do not know exactly where it was found, we presume it comes from this battlefield.

The tag itself is in fantastic condition, considering it has been buried for so long. The owner scratched a B in it, probably his bloodgroup, and an E, but we do not know what that means. In any case a perfect tag from a famous battlefield. In 1940, this regiment took part in the battle of Dunkirk in France.

It breaths history. Perfect textbook tag.
