Very nice and solid single decal M40 SS helmet, which was found directly south of the Grenadierhöhe on the Tannenberg line, west of Narva.

It most probably belonged to a member of the 10. or 11./SS-Frw.Pz.Gren.Rgt. 24 “Danmark”. The III./”Danmark” suffered heavy casualties during the first days of the Russian attacks on the Tannenberg line. On 26 and 27 July 1944 the 10. and 11./”Danmark” were first hit by artillery fire and were then in the epicenter of the Russian attacks on the hills, after which the companies had to retreat.

The decal has been damaged by corrosion, but the helmet itself is very solid, with a lot of paint preserved. It has damage from shrapnel on the backside.

A wonderful battlefield-dug helmet from a very historical place.
