A heavily damaged M42 SS helmet found in Kurland is a rare and valuable artifact. It is a testament to the fierce fighting that took place in the Kurland Pocket during the days of World War II.

The Kurland Pocket was a German salient in Kurland that was cut off from the rest of the German lines in late 1944. The pocket was held by German troops for several months, despite being subjected to heavy Soviet attacks.

Despite its damage,  the M42 SS helmet found in Kurland is still a beautiful and evocative object.
