A very lovely and rare half zinc Erkennungsmarke from a member of the Estnische Sicherungsgruppe 186. This was a volunteer guard unit, formed in January 1942 in the Narva area, which consisted almost entirely of Estonian volunteers.

Six of these battalions were formed, numbering from 181 to 186. Sicherungsgruppe 186 consisted on 1 May 1942 of 14 officers, 42 NCOs, and 195 other ranks, all Estonians, with six Germans attached to it. The battalion was used to perform guard duties in and around Narva.

It was disbanded already soon after, with most of its men sent to the Ost-Bataillone. Although we do not know exactly were it was found, we presume it was found in the Narva area. The tag itself is in excellent and solid condition, with the markings clearly readable.

A very rare tag from a lesser known Baltic volunteer unit. Perfect textbook example.
