Wonderful late-war zinc Erkennungsmarke from an Italian member of Flieger-Ersatz-Bataillon XII, a training unit for flying personnel of the Luftwaffe, which was stationed at the airport of Illesheim in Southern Germany for the biggest part of the war.
It was known to have been absorbing several hundred Italians after the Italian armistice in 1943.
In April 1945, remnants of this unit were thrown into battle against the US Army near Fürth. The tag itself is in perfect condition, including its original cord and leather protective cover.
A very rare tag to encounter.
