Stuka-Geschwader 77 id tag

Stuka-Geschwader 77 ID tag: Great and rare zinc Erkennungsmarke from a member of Stuka-Geschwader 77, one of the Luftwaffe dive-bomber wings flying the Junkers Ju 87 “Stuka”.

The Geschwader was formed in 1939 and fought in Poland, France, the Battle of Britain, the Balkans, and then on the Eastern Front. In October 1943, it was renamed Schlachtgeschwader 77. The tag is stamped with the number “53612” and “-27-”, the last being the personal number of the soldier. Unfortunately, we do not know where it was found. The tag is complete, and both halves are still joined, with the text clearly readable on both. There is some surface corrosion, mainly on the upper right of the front, and a small piece is missing at the bottom edge around the lower hole. The back is plain and shows light pitting.

A nice, attractive tag from a well-known Luftwaffe unit.
