We believe this to be an original Latvian volunteer shield, although these are heavily faked. It has the typical construction associated with this type of shield, as well as the factory maker stamp on the back.

It surfaced locally in Latvia. These were among the first types of shields to have been made and were locally produced in Riga.

Later on, the official German shields were adopted.
