Very nice and desirable zinc Erkennungsmarke from a member of the Marsch-Kompanie of Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 500, a reserve unit for the Bewährungstruppen of the Wehrmacht. Inf.Ers.Btl. 500 was formed in Fulda on 1 October 1941. Punished Wehrmacht members were placed in this unit before they were sent to one of the Bewährungsbataillone at the front.

On 1 December 1943, the unit was transferred to the General-Gouvernement, where it was relocated, including the Stammkompanie, Genesenden-Kompanie and Marsch-Kompanie, to Tomaszow.

The tag itself is in very nice condition with attractive deep imprints.

Penal unit 500 tags are rare to come across.
