SS M40 helmet from Ruza near Moscow

SS "Das Reich" helmet from Moscow Very nice and rare German M40 steel helmet with the remains of the SS runes decal, found near Moscow. We believe it is a model ET with an ET runes decal, although the markings inside the helmet are not visible anymore. It was found about ten years ago near the village of Ruza in the Moscow region. Heavy fighting went on around Ruza in the autumn and winter of 1941–1942 , and the SS-Division “Das Reich” fought in this sector during the battle for Moscow. It must have belonged to a member of this division.

The shell is heavily pitted, but solid, and appears to have been cleaned and stabilised. The decal is worn, but its shield outline is still clearly visible. Inside, the leather liner with its liner band and part of the chinstrap with buckle have survived; the leather is cracked and dried. A rare and attractive battlefield-found helmet from the battle for Moscow. Great display piece.
