A very nice and rare zinc Erkennungsmarke from a member of the 4./Jäger-Bataillon 4. This unit was formed in June 1942 as a Heerestruppe (a unit which was directly under command of a Heeresgruppe or Armee-Oberkommando). It was orignally formed as Jagd-Bataillon 4, but renamed into Jäger-Bataillon 4 already soon after. It saw action in the area of Smolensk and later Belarus, until it was disbanded late 1943, with its personnel mainly transferred to the 1. Skijäger-Brigade.

This tag was found near Kovel in Ukraine, and was probably losted there in Spring 1944. The tag itself is in really nice and solid condition, with the text clearly readable.
